Chewy Chocolate Toffee Squares

Prep time:


2 cups (500 mL) Five Roses® All Purpose Flour
1 1/2 cups (375 mL) brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp (2 mL) salt
1 cup/stick (250 mL) Crisco® All Vegetable Shortening, cold, cut into bits
3/4 cup (175 mL) toffee bits
1 can (300 mL) Regular or Low Fat Eagle Brand® Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 cup (250 mL) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup (125 mL) toffee bits
1 cup (250 mL) remaining crust mixture
1/2 cup (125 mL) semi-sweet chocolate, melted (optional)


    Crust :
  1. Preheat oven to 350º F (180ºC). Line 9” x 13” (3 L) baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Combine flour, sugar and salt in large bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs. You can do this in the food processor. Stir in toffee bits. Reserve 1 cup (250 mL) flour mixture for topping.
  3. Filling :
  4. Press flour mixture into prepared baking dish. Pour condensed milk over crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and toffee bits. Sprinkle with remaining flour mixture.
  5. Bake in preheated oven 30-35 minutes. Drizzle with melted chocolate, if desired. Cool and cut into squares.
